A person who laced treats with sedative and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the location in July.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was held in detention ahead of a further hearing on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.
She said his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
The legal representative added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained items including infant oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his concerns.
She explained the man continued to conduct the "treat game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not gone out by that point," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson notified the authorities again.
She explained the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five children.
